Tranfer Rumours
The wave of rumors in relation to transfers is usually born out of gossip and insider hiccup coupled with movements of players but also the talk of the town. The agents tend to aggravate speculation regarding a player’s transfer by simply insinuating that their player is wanted by other clubs enhancing the prospects of new contracts or better deals. On the same note, it is not unheard for clubs to intentionally leak information in order to inflate their player’s worth or devalue their competition.
Then the media comes into play, there always will be mouths to feed, not all gossip is dummy it may contain some grain of the truth, which is why journalists and commentators enjoy revealing such information regardless of its sources or the lack of them. The advent of social media has pushed this process further to the extremes, wherein fans and bloggers would be printing unconfirmed news even before it made it to the headlines.
Some of the well-known transfer scandals that were initially mocked and believed to have stemmed from wild imagination like that of Neymar joining PSG in 2017 were later on confirmed securing a record setting fee. There are other cases like that of Cristiano Ronaldo in a whole plethora of clubs, the transfer rumors turned out to be false or just sensationalism.
